Recently, my wife was offered a position with a school district in Southern California. This means that I will be relocating with my family back to the West Coast by the middle of July, 2011. Fortunately, my employer offered to let me stay on and work remotely while they find my replacement to work in their office in Alexandria, VA.
I have worked remotely before, but only a day or so at a time. This will be a new experience for me, but one that I hope will demonstrate that I am capable of working from home in an efficient capacity. I am really excited for this opportunity.
My family and I will be moving to San Diego, California where I hope to find new challenges, opportunities and a place to showcase my skill-set and knowledge of the public and nonprofit sectors.
Even though, I really do love my job and enjoy every part of it, I am saddend that the arrangement with my employer to telecommute is not of a permanent capacity with this relocation, I am not opposed to new opportunities while working in this “temporary” capacity, should you, the reader, find that I might be a good fit for a position you have or know about in Southern California.
Overall, I am excited about this new adventure my family and I are about to embark upon. By moving closer to our extended family, (both sides of our family live either in Nevada or California), it will be a great thing for our children to spend more time with their grandparents, uncles and aunts.
Over the course of my life, I never spent much time in Southern California; although I did spend some time, just not a lot of it. So, this will be somewhat of a new experience for me. I think I might take up surfing or perhaps get back into fishing, since my current employer, the American Sportfishing Association, is stirring up an itch to do so.
I have a little under a month to say goodbye to the friends I’ve made here in the Washington, DC Metro area and to pack. Life is going to be busy for the next month or so. An exciting challenge, indeed.

Will, that’s great you’re going to be closer to both sides of the family out there! This sounds like a good fit. And congratulations to Christine on her new position out there! I hope I get to see y’all again in your remaining month here. You gonna go out for wings one last time? I may have to make it down if you do. And hey, it doesn’t make much sense for the American Sportfishing Association to be based out of the D.C. area anyway! You should persuade them to move to SoCal. I mean, come on! Does EVERY association have to be based in the D.C. area?
